Very well known uniform as worn in the field until the Boer war when the bright red offered no camouflage so it was adopted as ceremonial uniform for the Guards regiments. Each regiment has its own buttons and button distribution.
Fashion wise they are similar to the Jackets worn on The Beatles Sergeant Peppers album.
The Libertines band all wore these in their heyday.
